‘Tis The Season… For Cold Feet!

With winter temperatures well below freezing, the Friends of Hampshire County Homeless will again be partnering with MANNA and Cathedral in the Night to present vouchers for boots, socks and winter coats to our patrons in need. We started the original program after noticing a number of individuals at the shelter in light or worn-out sneakers, when there was snow on the ground.

2021 Smith Vespers

The livestream for the 2021 Smith College Christmas Vespers is now available at the Smith College Facebook page.

An annual tradition at Smith, Christmas Vespers celebrates the season through songs, hymns, and readings and a pastoral reflection. In these times of uncertainty, this event draws our attention to advent, which means “arrival,” and represents journeys from darkness to light and captivity to liberation in Christianity, Paganism and other traditions.

The music portion of the 2021 program featured the Smith College Chorus, Glee Club, Chamber Singers, Handbell Choir, and Orchestra. Jonathan Hirsh, Paige Graham, and Grant Moss will direct the choral and instrumental groups. The services will be led by Rev. Matilda Rose Cantwell, director of Religious and Spiritual Life, with readings by members of the Smith College senior class, staff, and faculty. A free-will donation was collected for the Friends of Hampshire County Homeless Interfaith Winter Shelter Program.

We are very grateful for the continuing support of the Smith College Music Department and the Smith College Center for Religious and Spiritual Life.
